SCHOOL CALENDAR & HOURS

Central: 7:30am until 5:30pm.
East: 7:15am until 5:45pm.

It is important that the children arrive by 9:00am so that they may participate in the morning program as well as any morning field trips.

Half-day care is available on a limited basis.

The Open Door has many children who attend therapies and supplementary care in the morning. We are happy to communicate and work with the staff of other programs so that children receive consistent care.

School Pick-up

Children will be released only to their family or those who are specifically designated in their Child Care Contract. Parents should notify the staff whenever someone other than a parent will be picking up the child. The staff will check the photo ID of anyone unknown to them who is picking up a child even if the family has given its permission. This policy is designed to protect the children, and no exceptions can be made.

If you have an emergency which will delay your arrival in picking up your child, please call the center. Staff members who remain to care for a child after 5:45 at the East location or 5:30 at the Central location should be paid immediately for that care. The late fee is $1.00 for each minute after,closing time until the child is picked up.

Thanksgiving - 2 days
Winter Holiday - 2 weeks to coincide with the AISD break
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
Spring Break - 5 days to coincide with the AISD break
Memorial Day
Independence Day, or the weekday closest to July 4th when it falls on a weekend
2 Staff Training Days - one in the Fall and one in the Spring

Closings Due to Weather

The school may also be closed on other days due to inclement weather. Whenever AISD is closed due to weather conditions, the Open Door is also closed. AISD makes its announcements on the TV and radio by 7:00am. The Open Door may not be specifically announced, but whenever the AISD closes due to inclement weather, parents should keep their children at home.
